Geographical Indications (GI’s) form a part of Intellectual property rights, are the products which have a specific geographical origin and have some traditional knowledge attached to them. They certify purity and quality different from similar looking products. As such GI tagged products have value added to them ensuring good returns which instigates their conservation and sustainable development. Kangra tea is known for its unique taste and aroma. The paper analyses the performance of Kangra tea after acquiring the GI Tag, the awareness level of the cultivators, the role of the government both the state and the centre and suggestions for the betterment of tea industry of the state.
